Tottenham faces Manchester City in the Carabao Cup without captain Son Heung-min, sidelined due to a hamstring issue. Manager Ange Postecoglou aims for Son's return against Aston Villa, while exploring alternative options.
Tottenham will be without captain Son Heung-min for Wednesday's Carabao Cup match against Manchester City as he continues to recover from a hamstring problem. Son came back from missing three matches to score against West Ham, but after Spurs' victory on October 19, he experienced soreness, which has kept him out of the games against AZ Alkmaar and Crystal Palace.
Manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed that Son's main focus is to be ready for the Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday. "Sonny is almost fit, but we're aiming for the weekend," Postecoglou said with confidence.
The only other confirmed player unavailable for Spurs is Wilson Odobert, who experienced a significant setback in training and is currently waiting for further evaluation. In Son’s absence, 17-year-old Mikey Moore started in Tottenham's 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace. However, Timo Werner, who has been struggling with form, and a fully recovered Richarlison are both candidates to start on the left against City.
Even though Pep Guardiola has downplayed Manchester City's focus on the Carabao Cup this season, Postecoglou expects the team to keep up the high-performance standards they are known for. "You only need to look at Man City's record in this competition—they are a fantastic club. They maintain excellence regardless of who they play or how they rotate," Postecoglou noted.
